About IBRAFE:

The Brazilian Institute of Beans, Legumes, and Special Crops (IBRAFE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of the beans, legumes, and special crops sector in Brazil. Focusing on products such as beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, popcorn, and sesame, IBRAFE promotes their nutritional, economic, and social relevance.

The institution brings together researchers, farmers, exporters, and chefs to drive scientific and sustainable innovations in the sector, strengthening the entire value chain. Its mission is to promote the production and consumption of these foods, offering market knowledge, organizing events, and defending the sector nationally and internationally.

IBRAFE values the exchange of ideas, fair pricing, and technological integration while seeking to restore national pride in beans, a symbol of Brazilian culture, promoting innovative culinary creations.

About the project:

The Brazil Superfoods project, led by IBRAFE in partnership with ApexBrasil, seeks to consolidate Brazil in the global market for beans, legumes, and special crops, such as sesame, chia, and popcorn. With an investment of R$3.5 million, the focus is on the international promotion of these superfoods, in line with the growing demand for protein alternatives, which could reach a market of US$162 billion by 2030.

The initiative takes advantage of Brazil’s status as the world’s second-largest producer of beans, with a capacity for up to three harvests annually, aiming to reach exports of US$260 million by 2025. Strategies include fairs, international missions, and support for new exporters, with an emphasis on companies led by women and producers from the North and Northeast regions.
